Be Ready for CVSA Safe Driving Week August 24-30, 2025: Tips for Drivers

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Safe Driving Week is just around the corner, taking place from August 24-30, 2025. This annual initiative is a brake-safety awareness and outreach opportunity, and a brake-related inspection and violation data-collection project.

To ensure a smooth Brake Safety Week experience, it’s crucial for drivers and carriers to be well-prepared. Here are some key tips to help you navigate:

For Drivers:

  • Know the Focus Areas: Familiarize yourself with this year’s focus areas: brake drums and rotors
  • Conduct Thorough Pre-Trip Inspections: Pay close attention to brake components like linings, drums/rotors, hoses, and air lines during your pre-trip inspection.
  • Be Aware of Warning Signs: Recognize and respond to any signs of brake failure, including unusual noises, vibration, pulling, or a soft pedal.
  • Be Polite and Cooperative: Be courteous and cooperate with the inspectors. Answer their questions honestly and provide any requested documentation.
  • Practice Defensive Driving: Maintain safe following distances and anticipate potential hazards to minimize the need for sudden braking.
  • Avoid Overloading: Overloading can put extra strain on brakes, leading to premature wear and failure.
  • Perform Routine Maintenance: Keep up with regular maintenance schedules, including brake fluid checks, adjustments, and inspections.
